Article in journal

Articles provide

–  recent research results

–  a complete overview of the state of affairs around the research in a particular field, including descriptions and comparisons of recent publications (review article)

Articles in journals can partly be found in Hohai Discovery, but to be able to find the full range we recommend using an article database.

An article database contains descriptions of articles in journals with a direct link to the article where possible.

General or multidisciplinary databases can be used for all research fields. Examples of are:

Web of Science Core Collection

Science Direct

Google Scholar

Field specific databases are not handy for everyone, but usually deliver good results for a particular research field. Examples are:

IEEE Xplore Digital Library (EWI)

Engineering Villege (EI)

American Geophysical Union (AGU)

Consult the Information by Subjects for the best databases in your field. Or consult the A-Z list for an overview of all available databases.

If the Library has a subscription to a journal, you can click on the article to open or save it.

If the Library does not have a subscription on the journal, you can send in an order form via document requests and put in a request for the article. It will be ordered at another national or international library.

Conference proceeding

–  recent research results, sometimes less detailed than in a journal

–  promising ideas which are being researched

Conference papers can be found the same way as articles in article databases. Define the filter on “conference proceeding”.
